One of the rarest rabbit breed in America, the American comes in two colors, the American Blue and the American White. The White was developed from sports out of American blues. The American Blue is known to have the deepest blue of all the blue colored rabbit breeds. In 1917, the breed was developed by Lewis S. The breed was raised for fur and meat and maintained a very popular following into the 1940’s. American rabbits have long Mandolin shaped bodies that are characteristic to the breed. Large and hardy, the bucks weigh 9 lbs. and does 10 lbs. Does are typically good mothers that have large litters with kits that gain weight rapidly and develop their parents calm temperaments.
